<image:caption>Repeats whole phrases or sentences instead of single words For example, your child might say “I want cookie now” as a stored phrase rather than combining words spontaneously. Tip: Families seeking support for this pattern often find Hart Therapy Services a strong fit. Uses scripting from favorite shows, books, or conversations The child repeats lines verbatim instead of creating new sentences. Tip: Therapy can help children learn to adapt and expand these language chunks. Difficulty generating new sentences or combining words flexibly Your child may struggle to answer questions in their own words. They may repeat questions or answer the same way, regardless of their desires. Your child may use single words, but doesn’t combine them to form unique phrases or sentences. Child-led sessions at Hart Therapy Services focus on natural, playful ways to expand language use. Challenges with social communication or conversational flexibility Children may have trouble joining group conversations or switching topics. Our programs integrate social communication strategies alongside gestalt language support. Early language delays or inconsistent language use Some children show strong comprehension but limited expressive language. A comprehensive evaluation can help identify strengths and areas for growth.</image:caption>

Connection-focused shifts might look like: Sitting nearby and eating together without expecting conversation Narrating what you notice (“That’s crunchy,” “It’s warm”) instead of asking questions Accepting preferred foods while offering exposure without pressure For gestalt language processors, hearing meaningful language paired with shared experience supports understanding without demands to respond.</image:caption>

Instead of directing play, try: Joining what your child is already doing Copying their actions Using short, emotionally relevant phrases (“Uh oh,” “You did it,” “That was fun”) Narrate what you see your child doing during play If your child uses scripts, repeats phrases, or plays in a repetitive way, these are not things to “fix.” They are invitations for connection.</image:caption>

Work with a speech therapist to pick out helpful phrases or sentences to use throughout the say. Make these your catch phrases and find as many excuses as your can to include them in routines throughout the day.</image:title>
<image:caption>Move around! Incorporate movement to help regulate and invigorate your child or student. Movement games can be turned into language routines that your child or student may then be able to request. If your child enjoys being spun around, pair language “Let’s spin around” and “Do it again” or “More of that” as you spin them. On the swing model, “How about a push” or “Way up high” as your push them.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Stage Three of Gestalt Language Processing: Single Words and Structure Building</image:title>
<image:caption>Supporting your child in Stage Three of Gestalt Language Development Stage Three of gestalt language development is characterized by the child’s ability to start deconstructing whole phrases and scripts into individual words or smaller components. This deconstruction allows the child to experiment with and understand the variability of language. It’s a significant step towards developing more flexible, spontaneous, and self-generated language. Up until now, most words have been attached to others in phrases and scripts. They are just learning to take each word apart from it’s gestalt and combine it with others. I explain this like a lego house. At first, your child has a lego house (stage 1), we then show them to take the roof and add it to another set of walls (stage 2). Now they are taking each individual lego apart and learning how to make new designs. Just like with legos, this takes time.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Supporting your child in Stage Two of Gestalt Language Development It’s important to remember this is all part of the natural progression of language development for gestalt language processors. We want to ensure our GLPs feel encouraged in using their scripts to communicate. We want to give them plenty of new stage 1 gestalts to use in various settings. Once that foundation is lied, your child might start to shorten or mix-and-match their gestalts. This is when they are entering stage 2.</image:caption>

In contrast, Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) plans usually do not cover out-of-network services. Depending on your insurance plan, eligibility for reimbursement ranges from 50% to 80% of session fees once your out-of-network deductible amount has been met. Note:</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) Framework - We first recognize the difference between analytic and gestalt language development. Analytic language development begins with single words.</image:title>
<image:caption>We measure development for analytic processors by growth in vocabulary (new words), putting words together (more words), and grammatical development. Gestalt language development starts with larger “chunks” of language. Children first acquire gestalts or phrases. Gestalt development follows a different path than the one listed above. Language (gestalts or phrases) may start out rigid and require support to become more flexible, unique, and self-generated. As we recognize the development is different, we should recognize the support for individuals should be different too.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Acknowledge all language your child is using: In stage one, we want to encourage all language. Repeat back what you understand or what part you understand and encourage it. Respond by smiling and sharing joy (i.e, hum along, dance, or wiggle your body, make an agreeing sound “mmm”) or responding “I hear you” if you can’t figure out what they’re saying. Listen to not only the words, but the melody to see if you recognize where it is from and match intonation when you can. Even when you don’t know the words, you can match the intonation. Stage one is all about letting the child know we are listening to them. We can establish that understanding by acknowledging all communication from the child.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Stage One of Gestalt Language Processing: Scripting & Echolalia - Look out for patterns & deeper meaning:</image:title>
<image:caption>As stated above, at first we are solely encouraging language from our GLPs. As we continue to communicate with them, we want to see about what gestalts or scripts they’re using when & were. This can help us discover what the intended meaning of the message. Some examples include a child singing the Dora “map” song when it’s time to leave. The first time we hear this, we can nod, hum, or sing along. If we discover a pattern of this each time you are about to go somewhere else, we can begin to choose some new phrases to model along with acknowledgement of the song. “I’m the map!” “Where to next?” or “Time to go somewhere new”.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Nurturing Self-Regulation - Introduction: As parents and caregivers, we know that young children can experience big emotions and sometimes struggle to regulate them effectively. Teaching self-regulation is a valuable skill that empowers children to recognize their emotions, triggers, and implement coping strategies. Let’s explore the connection between communication and self-regulation, focusing on identifying dysregulation triggers and modeling simple phrases to help children express their feelings and needs before a meltdown occurs. Then we can start to nurture emotional intelligence and foster positive coping strategies in our little ones! Understanding Dysregulation Triggers: At the age of three, children are still developing their emotional awareness and may find it challenging to articulate what triggers their dysregulation. As caregivers, it's essential to observe their behavior and responses to different situations to identify potential triggers. Some common triggers in young children may include:</image:title>
<image:caption>Overstimulation: Loud noises, bright lights, or crowded environments can overwhelm a child's senses. Frustration: Inability to communicate needs or desires can lead to feelings of frustration. Changes in routine: Unexpected changes or transitions can disrupt a child's sense of security. Hunger or fatigue: Physical discomfort can contribute to emotional dysregulation.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Play with Cars to Grow Language - Cars can be a great activity to target language goals.</image:title>
<image:caption>Start here: lay out a few cars and get on the floor with your child. Observe to see what the child does and mimic some of the actions. Take a few cars and push them across the room. “Park” cars or have them crash into each other modeling “aahhhh” or “oh-no”. As you play with cars model “go”, “stop”. Model words like “again”, “fast”, and “more”. Adding more: as children are using first words, celebrate those while playing. add one or two words to encourage language expansion. If your child says “go”, smile and say “go fast”.</image:caption>
